EMDR & AF-EMDR
“Trauma isn’t just what happened to us—it’s also what was missing when we needed connection, safety, and love. Healing begins when we feel seen, supported, and empowered to reclaim the parts of ourselves that were left behind.”
– Bren M. Chasse, LMFT
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a unique and gentle therapeutic model that helps you process the memories and emotions that have been weighing you down. Our brains are hardwired to process and store experiences—and most of the time, this process occurs seamlessly. However, memories associated with trauma often get “stuck,” resulting in triggering symptoms such as intrusive thoughts, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and dissociation, as your brain struggles to metabolize the impact of life events that can be unimaginable.
EMDR is a simple yet powerful therapeutic model that targets the traumatic wounds that have an emotional grip on your life. By simultaneously activating both sides of the brain through bilateral stimulation, clients can safely process and reframe their trauma narrative from a place of personal power. EMDR does not alter or remove memories; instead, it helps the brain properly store memories associated with the initial traumatic event and removes the emotional charge attached to them, which often leaves clients feeling haunted by their past.
ATTACHMENT-FOCUSED EMDR (AF-EMDR)
AF-EMDR is an advanced form of EMDR that combines the powerful reprocessing techniques of traditional EMDR with a focus on attachment and relational trauma. Early life experiences, particularly with primary caregivers, strongly influence the lens through which we experience ourselves and others. When we experience trauma—especially relational trauma—it often disrupts our ability to trust, feel safe exploring intimacy, tolerate vulnerability, and build healthy, secure connections.
